本研究試圖以一個新的觀點，來理解護理工作中的情緒壓力。本文將情緒概念放在「情緒社會學」以及「科技與社會」兩個範疇的交界中討論，嘗試以行動者網絡理論(actor-network theory, ANT)的視野來思考情緒概念，試圖發展出一個更貼近實作脈絡的理解和觀察，期能在理論意涵上，對情緒社會學的情緒概念提出一些補充，也能夠在實作中提出一些可能的改善方式。

在情緒社會學當中，不論是重視情緒的生理面向、結構面向，或是互動面向，情緒都還是被視為是個體所擁有的某種本質；而在其中，人與物質之間的互動面向並沒有被重視。而這個部分，行動者網絡理論(actor-network theory, ANT)正好可以做為一個視野，提供了另外一個理解情緒的面向。其方法論以及本體論假設的幾個核心元素，對於理解護理工作現場當中的情緒如何和各種異質的物產生連結，有很大的啟發。

本文的論點即為，護理人員的情緒壓力，和工作現場的實作密不可分。在護理工作的現場中，情緒並不是護理人員所擁有的某個特質，而是在實作中透過種種具體的物質安排所仲介而成。亦即，沒有這些具體的物質安排，就沒有護理人員的情緒，而護理人員的情緒壓力，若離開了這些具體的物質安排，也就失去其意義。將情緒放在行動者網絡的概念中去理解，情緒可以視為是護理工作網絡中的一個實體、一個網絡，同時也是一個實作。從行動者網絡理論所獲得的啟發，讓我們可以重新去思考情緒主體性的構成，以及護理人員的情緒、能力和護理生涯之間的關係。
