Purpose: The study pointed out that the measurement of amount of physical activity and sleep quality of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD)mostly use questionnaires as research tools. The physiological wearable device can more objectively and accurately measure the amount of physical activity and sleep quality. The purpose of this study was to compare the physical activity and sleep quality of children with ASD and typically-developing children by using physiological wearable device. Method: This study recruited participants who meet the requirements of this research program through autism-related associations or organizations in northern, central, and southern areas in Taiwan. Fifty students with ASD(age: 11.2 ± 3.0 yr; 44 male vs. 6 female)and 50 typically developing students(age: 11.6 ± 2.4 yr; 40 male vs. 10 female)around Taiwan participated in this study. The Xiaomi bracelet 2 had been used to measure the amount of physical activity and sleep quality of participants for one month. Results: The steps per day in students with ASD(9144.85 ± 2551.81 steps/day)was significantly less than that in students without ASD(11243.43 ± 3606.01 steps/day).In addition, the sleep duration in students with ASD(471.47 ± 42.45 min/day)was significantly less than that in students without ASD(486.61 ± 37.69 min/day).Conclusion: The result indicated that the amount of physical activity and sleep quality in students with ASD are inferior to students without ASD. This result also suggested that the physical activity and sleep quality in students with ASD should be improved by their parents or related caregivers.
Key words: Wearable device, Xiaomi bracelet, Steps
