Employee engagement has been a growing subject for research in the past decade and has been defined in many ways by several scholars across the world. Employee engagement is the extent to which an employee feels interested and enthusiastic towards his job role. An engaged employee adds a lot of value to the organisation and an engaged team is a positive sign for any manager. In this dissertation, we have tried to understand various factors involved in employee engagement. We have followed some previous literature work and research models which are the pioneers for calculating employee engagement. The Gallup Q12 model was implemented in our own research where we aimed to get to the core of a Manufacturing company located in Taiwan and get an insight about the employee engagement in different project teams within the company. The second section of research aims to relate engagement to altruism. Altruism is an extra-role action where one employee exhibit act of kindness towards another. Our main target was to find out whether employee engagement is a contagious variable or not and whether it can be linked to altruism. Our research methods and inferences did give us positive results which have been discussed in the later sections.
Keywords: Employee Engagement; Altruism; Leadership; Organisational Citizenship.
