Under the government’s vigorous impetus, most of the large-scale medical institutes have already built extensive informational infrastructure, especially hospitals, which are becoming information based organizations. In the near future, the way of practiced medicine would possibly undergo significant changes. So enhancing mobile information in hospitals has become a key goal for all medical institutions. This research was conducted in some medical centers in Northern Taiwan, during their process of incorporating mobile information technologies into their normal operations; it focuses on the level of importance of different factors considered by the personnel involved in the incorporation process and the level of acceptance for users of these technologies
This research is divided in two sections: first, from related literature, summary the environmental factors, organization factor and the specific characteristics of mobile information technologies, to be the three principal factors taken into consideration by the relevant personnel (IT personnel, managers) during the process. Then, based on the result of questionnaires, find out the deciding factors that ensure the success of the process, demonstrate using the ranking system that “security of data transfer in mobile information technology” is the most important factor to be considered; from the perspective of managers, IT personnel consider “basic mobile infrastructure in the medical facilities” to be the most important factor; “the influence of the magnetic fields generated by the mobile devices on patients and medical equipments”, “the speed of data transfer for mobile information technology” and “security of data transfer in mobile information technology” are the principal factors in order to be considered by managers of other departments.
The second section of this research examines the response of the users (doctors and nurses), taken into account their need by using Technology Acceptance Model (abbreviated as TAM), and finding the level of acceptance of the process of combining mobile information technology into daily medical operations. The result of the research shows that for doctors, there exists a strong correlation among the need for mobile information technology – the motivation to use the technology during work, the “usefulness” environmental factor in the level of acceptance of mobile information technology, and the desire to use these mobile systems. And for nurses, the correlation is among the need for mobile information technology (motivation to use, search for medical or operational information), the level of acceptance to the new technology (especially on factors such as “ease of use” in “level education on informational technologies” and “usefulness” in “personal” and “environmental” factors), and desire to use these mobile systems.
