In the tourism industry, the sustainable development issue has gradually gained attention. Ecotourism, as a practice of sustainable tourism, is being advocated both domestically and internationally. There are more and more cases of social enterprises dedicated to developing sustainable ecotourism. However, there is little research focusing on how social enterprises facilitate sustainable ecotourism through resource integration. This study adopts a qualitative research method with a case study approach, interviewing six social enterprises in Taiwan that are developing ecotourism. The research findings show that the resource integration process of social enterprises consists of three stages: stakeholder interaction, resource integration, and evaluation. During the stakeholder interaction stage, social enterprises interact with different stakeholders to identify available resources. In the resource integration stage, they select and combine the resources that can be utilized. In the evaluation stage, the value creation or value destruction is assessed. When value creation occurs, it can help the sustainable development of ecotourism. On the other hand, when value destruction happens, it requires re-interacting with stakeholders or realigning strategies. This study expands the concept of resource integration in social enterprises and contributes to sustainable ecotourism development.
