According to the Year 2019 survey conducted by the Sports Administration, Ministry of Education in Taiwan, only 30% of the nationwide population exercise regularly. People have been losing muscle since the age of 30, and more and more Taiwanese, including young citizens, have muscle loss. Therefore, we can efficiently prevent sarcopenia if we can take a muscular endurance exercise as early as possible. Music, meanwhile, can help us stabilize emotions and work out regularly. However, there are few music-aided app interface designs for muscle training despite that there have been workout apps with the features of personal exercise plans and health records in recent years and that more people are using such apps. Based on the above findings and the User Experience (UX) theory, this study explores the needs of the users aged between 25 and 45 in terms of "User Flow," "Elements of User Need and Interface Design," and "Relevant Effects of Music on the Workout." It aims to understand the feasibility of music listening and muscle training to improve exercise willingness. It first used the qualitative interview of the pre-test questionnaire design to formulate the research direction to achieve the goal. Next, it analyzed the result of the pre-test questionnaire to collect the data of the user workout experiences, needs, and user interface architecture and then prototyped an app interface. Finally, it performed a usability test by interviewing the ten persons in the pre-test questionnaire again to gather the user experiences and their qualitative evaluation of opinions of the user feedback and effectiveness of the muscle training App interface designed in this research. Then, it adjusted the App interface by following the result of this Usability Testing. The research result of "User Flow" reveals that most users could follow the instructions to complete the task operation, and their average user experience satisfaction was above the standard 0.8, which was in line with a good user experience. Of the "Elements of User Need and Interface Design," the interviewees expressed that the app designed in this study could provide various exercise programs and functions suitable for beginners or those in need of workout planning assistance. This study develops regular usage habits, interactive feedback, and operation recognition to reflect the differences in user needs. It stresses the importance of "Relevant Effects of Music on the Workout" concerning personal music preferences and sports types to enhance the connection between users and sports apps. Following user experiences, it strongly suggests the playlists of music categories should consider the specific sports types, speeds, rhythms, and music styles. Overall, this study indicates that providing various muscle training programs is essential to fulfilling user
needs. The muscle training app based on user needs can become an effective training model, revealing no absolute connection between the user’s sports performance and music aids. It underlines the essentiality of exploring new music models from the user perspective and the fundamental principle to design an app interface for muscle training based on the user experience to perfectly meet the user experience.
