Hospitality, a cornerstone of travel activities, is significantly impacted by changes in guest behavior. However, the understanding of the underlying factors driving these behavior changes, particularly concerning environmental sustainability, remains limited. As a new type within the hospitality industry, Peer-to-peer (P2P) accommodations, such as Airbnb, have garnered widespread attention due to their innovative lodging methods and sharing economy characteristics. Unlike conventional hotels, these accommodations offer more personalized experiences and facilitate direct interactions between hosts and guests, which can uniquely influence guest behavior.
This study seeks to elucidate the fundamental reasons behind guests' behavior changes through in-depth interviews with 24 globally experienced travelers, employing inductive approach. By identifying key motivations and triggers for unusual behaviors, this research provides actionable insights for developing targeted guidance and policies aimed at promoting environmentally sustainable practices within the P2P accommodation sector.
