本研究旨在探討2000年政黨輪替前後，報紙社論政治社會化內容分佈情形與呈現方式。以1996年至2000年間的聯合報與自由時報社論為研究對象，以抽樣的方式，選取共288篇社論進行分析。本研究共有兩種分析模式，一、是時間趨勢的比較分析模式，分別比較兩報社論政治社會化內容分別在政黨輪替前後的差異情形。二、是兩報之間的差異比較，分別比較政黨輪替前與後，兩報社論政治社會化內容的差異情形。依據本研究量與質的分析結果，回應媒體政治社會化的相關理論，並提出建議給報社編輯做作參考。研究結果如下：
一、兩報在政黨輪替前後，社論內容均以政治相關內容為重，顯示報紙社論為一種政治傳播之管道。
二、政黨輪替前後，兩報社論政治社會化主題類目均最重視政策傾向，最不重視均的為政治社群之內容
三、聯合報社論政治社會化主題類目分佈有差異，而自由時報無明顯差異。
四、兩報社論政治社會化次要類目分佈在政黨輪替前後，均有所差異。兩報最重視的次要類目在政黨輪替後均有所轉變，兩報間在政黨輪替前後最重視的次要類目也有所差異。
五、政黨輪替後，聯合報社論監督政府的立場更加明顯，自由時報社論基本立場不因政黨輪替而有所轉變。

The main goal of this research is to analyze political socialization based on how it was presented through the contents of newspaper editorials, specifically during the change of the ruling political party in Taiwan during the year 2000.
288 newspaper editorials dating from 1996-2000 were selected from the United Daily News and The Liberty Times as samples in the research.
Two methods of analysis were used in this research. First is an analysis of how each newspaper title presented Taiwanese political socialization in their respective editorials. The second method is a cross examination and comparison of the differences in how Taiwanese political socialization was presented in both newspaper titles.
The results and findings of this research are in agreement with the media political socialization theories cited in this paper. The following points will give newspaper editors insights about the trends of editorial topics and subtopics during the period covered in the research. It is also the recommendation of the research that the findings be used as a guide by editors for future considerations.

1. The contents of the editorials from the two newspaper titles focused on political issues before and after the change in ruling political party. This reveals that newspaper editorials are a way to propagate political agenda.
2. The topics of the editorials from the two newspaper titles were more focused on political orientation and much less on political community before and after the change in ruling political party.
3. The editorials from the United Daily News had a broader range of topics compared to those of The Liberty Times. Thus, the topics of the editorials from the United Daily News can be classified into far more categories than those of The Liberty Times.
4. Individual newspaper title analysis and cross title analysis showed that there was a change in how the editorials were classified into subcategories before and after the change in ruling political party. There was also a significant change in the distribution of the percentage of the most frequent subcategories that editorials are classified into.
5. The United Daily News was more critical and vocal about its opinions of the government after the change in ruling political party, while The Liberty Times’ editorials did not show any change in the way it presented its opinions about the government.
