從「為什麼美術系學生這麼多,但最後成為藝術家的人卻是個位數?」發問開始,此研究專注於了解台灣視覺產業藝術家各階段的發展狀態,從美術系畢業、初接觸藝術市場到擁有多年藝術市場經驗藝術家為訪談對象,輔佐資料及文獻蒐集,了解藝術市場以及創業精神,整理分析一位具有藝術才能的年輕創作家如何通過市場考驗,以藝術家作為職業。研究者稱此為創業道路,原因在於市面上販售的藝術品本身即為藝術家將在工作室(另一種實驗室)的創作(另一種研究)成果商業化,如同現今熟悉的技術創業。
此研究從藝術家面對市場的態度以及市場活動行為,區分為主流藝術家以及非主流藝術家;另一方面也根據藝術家教育背景區分為師範體制以及藝術大學體制藝術家,透過訪談以及研究者分析,探討兩者之間的關係。研究發現藝術家創業選擇與本身的態度以及生長環境有直接影響,其藝術家特質也是抵抗市場的展現。透過本論文,希望可以帶來一條大家都想知道,但卻鮮少研究去討論的成功前創業道路。
Start with a simple thought “What is the reason behind the fact that there are only few artists in Taiwan even there are amount of students studying art?” This research is mainly focus on understanding the process to become a visual artist in Taiwan. Researcher interviewed artists from different steps. They are those who just graduated from school, who just begin to embrace the art market and who already survive as artists for years. With the knowledge from the reference of art market and entrepreneurships, researcher has showed a road for a young creator to become an artist as his or her occupation. The reason why researcher called this process entrepreneurships is based on the thought that art works made by artists are the other form of commodities. Becoming a artist and being an entrepreneur share many similarities.
There are two topics covered this research. First, the way to recognize mainstream artists and alternative artists. Second, the relationship between education background and art market. Through the interview and analyst, this research concludes that artists’ attitudes and behaviors toward art market and artists’ background strongly influence the result when artists face the market. Researcher hopes these results could light up a road which is attractive but rarely be discussed about.
