Workplace Health Promotion (WHP) is a critical issue in public health. In a contemporary society, new methods have been introduced to this field, such as wearable devices. The personal health record (PHR) is an efficient and convenient way to WHP. However, in the context of organizational operation, there are some concerns about this method. Previous studies focused on users’ experiences or factors influencing the willingness to use PHR. These arguments do not analyze how an organizational context can influence an individual’s willingness. This research aims to fill this gap by analyzing the factors that facilitate an individual’s willingness to use personal health recording device through the case study.
In this research, I use a single-case holistic design of Company B. I used a mixed method, including qualitative and quantitative methods, to conduct this study. I interviewed managers and employees, who are also PHR users, to understand their observations and their thoughts on the PHR. Meanwhile, I also surveyed to understand the factors essential in the decision process.
This study found that the organizational health promotion culture, the accessibility of the device, age, and interpersonal support are the four significant factors that facilitate the use of PHR. The interview suggests a similar result. The accessibility, the privacy of the record, and the privacy of the recording process are the key in the decision-making process.
In conclusion, this research analyzed the factors that affect individuals’ willingness to use PHR service. Different from an individual’s personal preference, the organizational context is an essential factor needed to be emphasized in future policy.
